Exciting Opportunity for a Customs Officer to join the team in Tauranga
The New Zealand Customs service has full-time Customs Officer position, based in our Tauranga Office. In this role, you will be identifying and preventing potential security and community risks coming in and out of New Zealand. As a Customs Officer, you will have a high level of integrity, honesty and discretion. You will also be interacting with a wide range of people from all walks of life. The team are looking for a Customs Officer who can hit the ground running.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role
**Based in Tauranga, you will have the opportunity to**:
- Process passengers/crew and goods in/out of Aotearoa which can include search activities
- Facilitate legitimate trade and travel, collect import and export data
- Intercept contraband (such as drugs and weapons), investigate and prosecute offences
- Inspect cargo and mail, assess and collect duty/GST on imports.
Working as part of a small tight knit and busy team, you will cover everything from marine (all craft types - commercial, yachts, cruise ships and fishing vessels), all Service Delivery functions, a large excise clientele, inspections and private flights
The Salary for this role starts at $56,318 - $75,971. Mid-range $67,656 this is dependent on your skills and experience. This role also has an additional allowance.

Being a Customs officer means being available for weekends, nights and public holidays.

Working for NZ Customs | Mahi ki te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa
To join Te Mana Ārai in any role you must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident*.
You must have a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for security clearance at a higher level.
Due to the nature of Customs work you must have a clear Police record. Successful applicants are also required to pass a medical assessment and drug test and must hold a full NZ Drivers' licence.
Customs does not currently require new employees to be up to date vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. Customs may reintroduce a requirement to be vaccinated if our health and safety risk assessment or government requirements change.
