At Te Pātaka Whaioranga | Pharmac we endeavour to deliver the best health outcomes for all New Zealanders through investment in medicines and medical devices.

We recognise the importance of our role as a Tiriti partner and are committed to upholding Te Mana o Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Through our work on behalf of Aotearoa we strive to improve equitable health outcomes for Māori and advance Māori health aspirations.

We are a close-knit whānau with around 160 kaimahi. We take pride in what we do, work hard, and have fun along the way.

**Wānanga** - we draw on evidence and people's experiences to improve

**Māia**:

**Kaitiakitanga**:

**Mō tēnei tūranga | About the Role**

Kua rite koe mō tēnei mahi? Are you ready to make a difference?

Our Health Economists assess proposals for funding of new health technologies, advising on high-value funding decisions.

We are Aotearoa New Zealand's single largest health technology assessment team. We work closely with Te Pātaka Whaioranga | Pharmac's clinical advisors and our commercial negotiators. There are also opportunities to lead strategic projects.

This is a real opportunity to be at the core of our operations - influencing the practical intersect of evidence-based medicine, economics, and commerce. This is also a chance to build our organisational capability and competency when it comes to Te Tiriti partnership, reducing inequities and improving health outcome for Māori.

**Mā**‎** **wai te mahi nei? | Who are we looking for?**

We are seeking a Health Economist for a fixed term period to advance the appraisal of new medicines and devices which will improve the health of New Zealanders.

You may have a background in health technology assessment, epidemiology, finance, applied mathematics, economics, biomedical research, or related fields.

You will help Te Pātaka Whaioranga | Pharmac prioritise spending on pharmaceuticals for Aotearoa New Zealand - modelling the cost-effectiveness and budgetary impact of new pharmaceuticals.

You will be confident to present results to other staff and to decision-makers, and to debate results with staff, clinicians and suppliers. You will have excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of the challenges within the health sector (particularly focused on reducing inequities for Māori) and an ability to synthesise and critically appraise evidence as inputs of economic modelling.

Applicants will need to be self-driven to manage time-pressured work but also need to collaborate and engage in wānanga with the rest of the team. You will be part of our Pharmaceutical Assessment Team and supported to learn and succeed in our fast paced and dynamic workplace.

**Ko wai koe? | Who are you?**

**Joining Te Pātaka Whaioranga | Pharmac**

We are a whānau centered organisation and understand the importance of maintaining a healthy work life balance. To support our kaimahi and their whānau we offer:

- Five weeks annual leave
- Additional paid leave for our end of year close-down period
- An annual $500 hauora payment
- Access to subsidised health insurance through Southern Cross
- Paid Parental Leave support in addition to minimum legislative requirements.
- Hybrid working - work from home up to two days per week.

At Te Pātaka Whaioranga we welcome all kaimahi with a mihi whakatau during their first month. For kaimahi Māori, we offer mihi whakatau on your first day, where your whānau and manuhiri are welcome to attend. As you come through our waharoa, you will be welcomed into our growing support network - Maōri Caucus.

We strive to represent Aotearoa and the diverse communities we serve. We are committed to championing workplace inclusion and acknowledge that in order to do their best work, we must foster an environment where people are comfortable to be themselves and work in a way that best suits their individual needs.
