**About the role**
We are looking to recruit a Senior Intelligence Analysts to work within the National Intelligence Centre who will hold the newly established Arms Safety and Control portfolio.
The Firearms portfolio will be a specialised role focusing on providing national intelligence oversight on the firearms environment, both the illicit and legitimate.
The role will be required to work in partnership with other areas such as Counter Terrorism, Organised Crime and the District Tactical Response Model Intelligence teams to ensure the firearms system and regulator is informed and responsive to community and Police safety needs.
With the establishment of the firearms branded business unit and the new firearms registry this role will provide national intelligence while working with government agency partners in NZ and internationally to inform key policy advisors and decision makers.
This role will primarily provide intelligence support to the Director - Operations Firearms, and relevant stakeholders and workgroups, and will support briefings to the Police Executive and other senior officials on the firearms system trends and emerging risks.
An experienced intelligence practitioner with previous work experience or knowledge of our current firearms environment would be beneficial but not mandatory.
As a Senior Intelligence Analyst, you will be an expert in using a range of analytical tools and methodologies and use your advanced critical thinking skills to provide insight and foresight on complex problems and issues.
You will be experienced at establishing and maintaining sustainable partnerships, and will champion diverse, different perspectives and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, identifying opportunities to reflect these in Intelligence products.
As well as demonstrating best practice Intelligence tradecraft and principles, as a Senior Intelligence Analyst, you will bring a team-focused approach to coaching and mentoring others, supporting the development of intelligence capability across the National Intelligence Centre, and foster a positive and productive team culture.
Your engagement in your own professional development will be shown through proactively working to grow your knowledge of policing and seeking feedback on your own work.
Your willingness to get out and talk to people, and critically and thoughtfully engage with what you find, will enhance your understanding of the Intelligence contribution required to ensure positive outcomes for New Zealand.
**Key Accountabilities**
- Use analytical expertise, critical thinking, and crime science theory to conduct analysis of complex crime problems and policing issues and propose potential solutions.
- Manage competing priorities and demands to deliver timely, relevant Intelligence and achieve results for the team.
- Provide technical guidance in Intelligence analysis tools/methodology and coach junior Intelligence staff to develop their Intelligence tradecraft.
- Develop and maintain a wide range of positive relationships (internal and external).
- Lead by example with a committed, positive attitude towards team and personal development.
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop a high standard of written reports/presentations and provide clear and concise verbal briefings appropriate to a range of audiences.
- Lead and collaborate projects and group analysis, provide regular peer review and project coaching, and work with limited supervision on complex analytical problems.
