Our name, Te Arawhiti, means ‘the bridge'. This name symbolises the bridge between Māori and the Crown; the bridge between the past, the present and the future; and the journey from grievance to true Tiriti partnership.

**Te āhuatunga a te tūranga/About the Role**
The Senior Historian is a key part of the historian team, contributing to our team's direction, developing junior team members, providing quality assurance, and giving advice and support across the office. Typically, you will lead the development of historical redress for several Treaty settlement negotiations.
You may also engage in Tribunal inquiries, or support other agencies to do so, and contribute to building public sector capability through workshops on Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Aotearoa New Zealand History.
**He pūkenga tou/Skills and Experience**
To be successful in the role, you will:
- Demonstrate significant knowledge and experience of Treaty analysis
- Have extensive experience conducting historical research
- Be comfortable engaging with hapū and iwi Māori
- Be committed to coaching and mentoring junior team members and contributing to the direction of the team
- Bring an understanding of, and commitment to continued learning about tikanga and te reo Māori
- Have a good understanding of the machinery of government and working in the public sector

The Historian team works across Treaty settlement negotiations, Whāinga Amorangi capability building, and Crown engagement in Waitangi Tribunal Inquiries. We're a fun and supportive team, united by a strong sense of curiosity and a commitment to the Māori Crown relationship.

**Utu ā-tau/**Salary**
The appointing salary for this role will be between $100,221 and $130,876 based on skills and experience.
