Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
Supporting the Director Biosecurity Strategy & Assurance you will provide systemic operational and technical leadership and will form part of the Directorate Leadership team.
The Manager Risk & Assurance will ensure that all risk and assurance activity within Biosecurity New Zealand is consistent with MPI systems and aligns with best practice.
This role takes the accountability for ensuring there are robust practices to manage our corporate risks, and business continuity and ensuring the provision of independent and objective assurance and advice on the performance of Biosecurity New Zealand's systems of risk and control through the creation and implementation of high-quality reviews, assessments and audits.

Mōu - About You
The Manager Risk & Assurance is a complex role, so you will bring expert knowledge and experience of risk and assurance frameworks, models and continuous improvement methodologies. You will also bring a high level of experience of developing and monitoring risk and assurance practices at a senior level in a large complex environment.
- Have demonstrated skills and experience in the promotion and education of risk and internal control management practices at all levels of an organisation
- Show the ability to assess risks associated with assurance related activities
- Be an experienced people leader in conjunction with skills in management, people development, performance management, succession planning and building a collaborative team
- Be recognised for your problem-solving skills with an ability to work through complex issues, using in depth analysis in the context of the overall business issues and the judgement to selection and apply/recommend appropriate decision

Low level Security Clearance
- most preferably a New Zealand citizen, who has resided continuously in New Zealand for at least the last five (5) years, OR
- is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five (5) years: either Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.
