Transpower owns and operates New Zealand's National Grid - the unique High Voltage transmission network crossing mountain passes, forests, farmland, and open sea, bringing electricity from where it is generated to where it is needed most.

With a whole-of-industry view of the electricity sector, we're at the forefront of the electrification and expansion of the Power System New Zealand needs for a net zero carbon future.

Our Operations Planning team enables both maintenance and project work to occur on the national grid, safely and efficiently, through coordination, across Transpower, with Generators and our Service Providers. The team also delivers engineering assessments to ensure potential security impacts are mitigated and power system security is maintained while the required work takes place.

**Our Graduate Programme**

Commencing February 2025 in Te Whanganui-a-Tara / Wellington, we invite you to be part of a cohort of 30 Engineering Graduates with various majors. You'll gain a range of skills and put theory and first principles into practice while doing important work with a variety of different teams over your two-year rotational placement programme. **The Opportunity**

You'll receive mentoring from experts to build your knowledge and experience real work from day one. As an Operations Planning Graduate Programme participant, you'll rotate through placements like System Security, Network Modelling and Commissioning, Grid Compliance and Outage Planning. This may require travel and a placement/s outside of Wellington. You may be part of:

- The crew completing the annual HVDC outage
- Planning system outages with internal and external teams
- Identifying and planning approaches to support system security and system operations - short, medium, and long term
- Helping to plan and size the Transmission Grid of the future

Building relationships across the business you'll gain both deep technical understanding and strengthen your soft skills, along with a good awareness of internal and external customer needs. Ultimately, we will help you explore where and how you wish to shape your career with us.

**What will you bring?**

By December 2024 you will have completed a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) ideally with electrical or power systems however you may come from engineering science or mechatronics.

You'll be achieving/have achieved a minimum B+/5.5 grade point average in your studies and demonstrate curiosity, outstanding written and verbal communication, and active listening.

Good analytical and problem-solving skills will support your love of detail-orientated work/study, but conversely, you'll be interested in the big picture, and future of energy, making a different to Aotearoa and having positive impact on the communities we serve.

**While not essential, the following skills are a plus, so please tell us if you have**:

- Basic knowledge/experience of the New Zealand electricity supply industry
- Experience with Power BI or other analytical tools
- The ability to solve complex puzzles through first principal reasoning
- Advanced python skills are advantageous
