He angitūtanga | About the role
With over 72,000 recreation, historic, and biodiversity assets to oversee, we are constantly seeking skilled professionals to help us maintain and enhance our facilities. From huts and campgrounds to tracks and bridges, as well as aviaries and wharfs, we need dedicated individuals who can ensure these assets are well-managed and up to standard. As our next Asset Inspector, you will play a critical role in maintaining our facilities and protecting our natural environment. You'll conduct thorough inspections of DOC and third-party assets on public conservation land, ensuring that our tracks, huts, and structures meet high standards. Additionally, you'll support district offices in their field work, providing valuable assistance as they manage these assets.

You will be an organised, self-starter who is passionate about making a difference.
**If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you**:

- A current Driver's Licence.
- A high level of fitness with backcountry experience.
- Practical skills and knowledge of construction methods.
- A strong health and safety focus, including familiarity with safety systems and processes.
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of people, including DOC staff, external stakeholders, and community groups.
- Strong time management and task prioritisation skills.
- Experience with databases, reporting and data entry using mobile phone apps and computer systems
- Comfort with travel across the North Canterbury region.

**Desirable**:

- Experience or qualifications related to building trades.

The Asset Specialist team is dynamic and responsive unit. It is a nationally based team with locations spread from Kerikeri in the North to Nelson in the south.

The salary range for this position is $60,314 to $75,603 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience. Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory - this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
