Ko wai mātou - About Us
It is a time of significant change in health with work happening to build systems and approaches that support Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) by being responsive and accessible to people, effective in delivering equitable outcomes, and honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Manatū Hauora (the Ministry of Health) is a key partner in this change, advising decision-makers on the direction of the system, bringing population groups and sector organisations together to inform strategy, and providing high quality policy advice to decision-makers.
But achieving Pae Ora isn't just about changing the health system. There is a strong recognition within the reforms of the importance of addressing the wider social determinants of health which sit across government and significantly influence the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders.
The Family and Whānau Policy Team works on issues that particularly affect the health and wellbeing of children and young people. Some of the things the team is currently working on include considering how the health system can be more responsive to children and young people with the poorest health outcomes, what we do to detect and respond to child abuse, how new families are supported in the early years of a child's life, and progressing priorities in the government's Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy.
The team also picks up work where the activities of other agencies intersect with health outcomes including poverty/welfare, criminal justice, and immigration.
Ko tōu ake mahi - What You'll Do
