Principal Advisor Ux - Customer Experience and Analytics (CE&A)
Whakatairangatia ngā kete o te mātauranga ki te ao mārama E te tai whakarunga, e te tai whakararo - nau piki mai, nau kake mai ki te Mana Tohu Mātauranga o Aotearoa.
May the baskets of knowledge (education) be brought into the world of light. We welcome one and all to join us at the New Zealand Qualifications Authority.
About the role
Do you live and breathe Design Thinking? Are you focused on creating solutions that are desirable, viable and feasible? Are you a natural storyteller, a workshop facilitator, a co-creator?
This is a newly created role that focusses on leading Ux/UI initiatives for the NZQA, to build a top-in-class Ux/UI capability across the Organisation.
The role will define and lead the full end-to-end product design process, is comfortable working with ambiguity, from discovery (research, workshops, customer journey, system & empathy maps) to delivery (wireframes, functional prototypes, AB tests, high fidelity designs) and everything in between.
Reporting to the Practice Lead Cx, you'll own the Ux/UI design process and implementation, partnering with Cx, product managers and owners, data science and developers to define the design strategy for NZQA products and services, and iteratively execute against that.
You will own NZQA's Ux strategy to make a positive and timely difference to our customers - New Zealand learners, Teachers and learning Institutions - through intuitive and accessible design solutions helping us play our part in addressing equity issues in the education sector. To make this happen you need to be a thinker and a doer - not a preacher.
As a natural leader you are a person with strong experience in Ux/UI as well as nuanced influencing and project management skills.
We're not expecting unicorns here - more of a T-shaped person. Your empathy will help you drive into the heart of customers' issues, and your savvy mix of design and technical acumen will influence all stakeholders to make a positive customer impact through your thoughtful balanced design solutions.
The role sits within NZQA's Customer Experience and Analytics (CE&A) team and collaborates with Cx as well as business units across the organisation. The CE&A team is responsible for customer experience, design thinking, customer insights, contact centre, website and digital experience, organisational policies and processes, privacy information management and Data Science. The breadth of this team's functions will provide this role with various opportunities to develop complimentary skills as well as long term career opportunities.
Skills and experience
You have all the essential product design skills to take a design from problem statement to shipped - you manage the trade-offs for great design vs the business and technical needs. You understand that sometimes shipped is enough - Pragmatism is your middle name:
- You are either already operating as a lead UX/UI Designer that can deliver development ready solutions OR you might come from a developer background who has decided to make the leap to UX/UI design.
- Have at least 5+ years' experience in relevant field to Ux/UI.
- Ability to establish and build strong working relationships with complimentary disciplines, particularly Cx, IT developers and Testers.
- Proven ability to develop trust and credibility with managers.
- Clear and concise written communication skills and excellent oral communication skills
- Up to date knowledge of current Ux/UI trends and technologies.
- Ability to deliver with a drive to finish what has been started.
- Demonstrated ability to work with the business, understand their requirements and translate these into practical solutions.
- Competency in creating reports, concepts, wireframes, information architecture (IA) and interactive prototypes.
- Experience in team-building techniques and use of relevant diagnostic tools.
- Demonstrable ability to facilitate co-creation workshops.
- Working knowledge of UX and UI tools such as Adobe suite, Figma, Miro etc.
- Your standard is development-ready design solutions.
- Oversee the implementation of solutions collaborating closely with technical team.
- Facilitate and advocate a user-centred design process.
- Lead user research activities (interviews, testing, secondary research synthesis & analysis).
- Proven experience working in-house within cross functional, agile product teams on software and digital products that address complex user needs.
- Demonstrable experience designing for and building high performing native apps (iOS or Android) and responsive web designs.
- Experience working directly with developers to make your designs real.
**Desirable**:
- Experience operating in a consulting style environment at a senior level.
- Experience managing project teams as a team leader or project manager.
- A portfolio showcasing your strategy and process.
