As Chief Customs Officer (CCO) Customs Technical Unit, you'll lead NZ Customs' team across operations and at a strategic level within Operations Support. The CCO is responsible for having oversight of the unit, ensuring delivery of service to key stakeholders and being a lead contributor in the building of the future direction of the work area.
The Customs Technical Unit team is a dedicated team which provides technical expertise to support operations that investigate and disrupt serious organised crime.

The position requires extensive knowledge and experience in the technical field as well as effective and confident decision making, and the ability to build and maintain the relationships required to achieve strategic objectives.
You'll use your experience as a people leader to provide clear leadership, ensuring teams have the skills and knowledge to deliver the outcomes required. You will have strong understanding of the operational needs of the Operations Support (OS) teams as well as a strategic view on the direction of OS. This position will work alongside partners in the wider Customs group such as Legal, Finance and Information Services (IS), Privacy and Policy, Investigations and Intelligence and the Authorising Officer. The CCO Technical Unit will lead operations for CTU.
This role is Auckland based.
The salary for this role starts at $100,653 to $127,610 the mid-point for this role is $116,023 (depending on your experience) with an allowance of $15,640

You will have experience in operational planning as well as project management. You will have experience in managing a work area that is highly specialised and technical in nature.

Background checks and clearances
You will need to be able to obtain a Top Secret level national security clearance. To achieve Top Secret clearance, you must be a New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident who has resided in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom or the United States continuously for the last 10 years. Already having Top Secret clearance is a benefit, but not a requirement. We'll guide you through the process.

You must have a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for security clearance at a higher level.
