Principal Advisor - Regulatory Strategy

**Location**: Wellington CBD

**Salary Starting From**: $136,615.

Mō te tūnga | About the role
The purpose of Te Tari Pūreke, Firearms Safety Authority business unit is to enable New Zealand to be a world leader in arms safety through an effective regulatory and administrative approach to the Arms Act and Arms Regulations.

Te Tari Pūreke has been established to lead, operate, and develop investment in modernisation of the firearms system. This will result in a more efficient and effective risk-based licensing system, introduction of comprehensive performance indicators, and shall improve public confidence in the firearms licensing system. The modernisation of the Arms Regulatory System will take every opportunity to prevent harm through transparent, high quality, consistent, legislatively correct, and effective regulatory activities, administration, education, and promotion of compliance with the provisions of the Arms Act and Arms Regulations.

The Principal Advisor Regulatory Strategy role will support Te Tari Pūreke, in setting its strategic direction through development and evolution of its regulatory strategy, ensuring dependencies and emerging trends are proactively identified and managed. The role will also lead, establish and embed integrated business planning practices across Te Tari Pūreke, covering key activities to support the operationalisation of strategy.

The role will provide a strategic ‘think tank’ and problem solving capability to ensure we proactively anticipate future consequences and trends, develop credible visions or possible scenarios and creating strategies and plans in response

**Takohanga Matua | Key Accountabilities**:

- Drive development and improvement of the regulatory strategy
- Work closely with the Directors and their direct reports to elicit strategic challenges and opportunities and provide thought leadership to develop a clear strategic landscape for Te Tari Pureke
- Conduct environmental scanning to anticipate impacts on TTP, the overarching firearms system and safety, particularly with reference to new capability and international rends
- Work with the Manger Communications to develop strategic communications that effectively demonstrate value of TTP.
- Conceptualise business transformations for TTP to implement the regulatory strategy
- Leadership of the Senior Advisor and Senior Business writer Advisor in the strategy team.
- Ensure the key concepts of Māori responsiveness, policing excellence, and prevention first are adhered to in all projects and initiatives.
- Support the Principal Advisor - Systems performance in coordinated, collaborative work programme.

**Qualifications / Requirements**:
Relevant tertiary qualification, or equivalent experience preferred
