Te Papa stands proud as an iconic national building housing the treasures of the Aotearoa/ New Zealand and is a vibrant destination for both national and international visitors. Biculturalism is a founding philosophy and practice of Te Papa designed to explore the contribution of Māori language and culture to the life, culture and activities of the museum in small and large ways. Te Papa fosters and nurtures cross-cultural capability, the ability of people of different cultural backgrounds to interact with one another in positive and uplifting ways.

We are looking for a Kiripaepae / Kaiwhakahaere Tari to join the Facilities Operations team. A person who well presented, calm and resilient and takes pride in delivering high quality work. This position provides the first point of contact for greeting and processing visitors, contractors and staff at the Team Te Papa Cable St site as well as supports the Facilities Operations team and others with administration.

The position is full time and is located in the Team Te Papa reception area - it therefore works largely unsupervised. There will be times when additional cover for the Tory St site will need to be provided.

What you'll do:

- Engage with, greet and provide access to visitors, contractors and staff in a customer focused way and in a way that supports the security of Te Papa
- Deliver customer services underpinned by Te Papa's bicultural philosophy and the Te Tiritī o Waitangi and encompass reo Māori in interactions
- Maintain the Team Te Papa Reception area ensuring it is professionally presented, tidy and adequately stocked
- Provide administrative support and back-up to the Facilities Operations team

What you'll bring to the role:

- Previous reception or front-line customer service experience and a sound knowledge of reception and administrative practices
- An understanding of Te Papa's bicultural philosophy and the partnership approach set out in Te Tirirtī o Waitangi.
- An understanding of and willingness to encompass Reo Māori in interactions with customers and kaimahi.
- A good appreciation of quality service delivery and a passion for delivering exceptional levels of customer service
- The ability to relate well to a variety of people, adapting as necessary
- Proven communication skills and the ability to relay messages both verbally and in writing to a range of audiences
- Well-organised and great attention to detail
- Ability to multi-task and pick up new tasks quickly
- A proactive approach to process improvement
- Computer literacy with an intermediate knowledge of Word and Excel
