Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
The Nurse Vaccinator will work collaboratively with the Starship Community Nurses, Allied Health and Community Health Workers involved with the whānau. We will be using a prioritisation tool to ensure that we use this small resource to support younger Māori tamariki first and then other children receiving Starship Community services.
The Nurse Vaccinator will be providing routine vaccinations to Starship Community tamariki and their whānau in their home setting as GP's and outreach services are extremely stretched. This is to address the extremely concerning falling rates of immunisation especially in Māori and Pacific communities and to try to lessen the impending measles outbreak.
The aims are to enhance access for tamariki and whānau who are less likely to receive immunisations and to support whānau to overcome vaccination hesitancy by providing information and access to immunisation within the context of existing, trusted relationships with health professionals and a whole-of-whānau approach.

To be successful in this role you will
Have current registration and APC with the Nursing Council of New Zealand
be an experienced vaccinator
have project work experience
have general vaccination authorisation
have experience in vaccinating across the lifespan

Minimum of 2 years nursing experience, preferably in paediatrics within a community or public health setting
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
