**Āu Mahi | What You Will Do**

The successful applicant will demonstrate cutting-edge research and teaching in, and have advanced understanding of, Materials Science in its broadest definition. Applicants must have a strong practical component to their research that addresses both basic and applied questions. You will be expected to establish an externally funded research programme. There are both applied and basic science research grants and private funders of research in Aotearoa New Zealand. You will also bring or describe your approach to develop research linkages with Māori (Indigenous Peoples of Aotearoa New Zealand) iwi (tribes) and hapū (subtribes), research institutes, industry, or charitable groups, and/or civil society.

The successful applicant will provide major contributions to teaching and the delivery of academic courses and programmes, engage in the full range of research activities and undertake academic leadership and service duties within the School, Faculty and University.

**Mōu | Who You Are**

The successful applicant will have a proven record of high-quality research, including a significant portfolio of excellent publications in internationally leading scholarly journals of the highest impact and a track record of obtaining significant research funding. The successful applicant will demonstrate academic excellence in university teaching and be able to conduct innovative and effective lectures and laboratory classes from first year through to postgraduate level in our chemistry and/or physics teaching programmes. Applicants must have academic experience in the field and a demonstrated track record of successfully supervising postgraduate research students.

The successful applicant will have opportunities for international conference travel to support their research and teaching activities and will have the opportunity to network with international leaders in their field through the University's unique Erskine and Canterbury Fellowship Schemes (which enables the University to host world leading academics) and through the University's academic staff exchange programmes with Oxford and Cambridge Universities in the UK.
