You will be joining a 14 strong team of technical staff providing specialist support to the staff and students of the Department of Mechanical & Mechatronics Engineering, where the team is split 50/50 on the City Campus and the Newmarket Campus. We contribute technical knowledge and expertise to research and teaching activities while ensuring the ongoing operation and compliance of a vast range of laboratories and teaching facilities.
**Job Description** Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity**
The Faculty of Engineering is seeking a new Instrumentation Technician to provide expert technical services to support the teaching and research activities for staff and students of the Department of Mechanical & Mechatronics Engineering.
You will provide technical support mainly in the Thermofluids and Aerodynamics areas with special focus on design, construction, and maintenance of electrical, electro-mechanical and electronic equipment for instrumentation, data-acquisition, and real-time control for thermofluid and heat transfer instrumentation.
This role is a full time, 37.5 hours per week. The salary range for this role is $58,300 - $78,900 per annum depending on experience and qualifications.

**He kōrero mōu | About you**
We are looking for a self-motivated engineer with a Trade qualification in Electronics or Electrical Engineering and/or relevant work experience in labs or mechanical environments. We would prefer you to have a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering or equivalent and for you to be qualified as an Electrical Appliance Serviceperson (EAS) or Electrical Service Technician (EST). It would also be of advantageous if you are a Certified LabVIEW Associate Developer (CLAD).
**Essential Experience**:
- 4-5 years’ experience (post training) in electronics and instrumentation
- Experience in electronic instrumentation, hardware and software design, Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design and assembly, firmware programming, office automation, fault finding and repair
- Experience in working with a variety of sensors and transducers such as pressure, temperature, vibration, torque, strain, etc
- Operation and maintenance of test equipment and data acquisition instruments
**Preferred Experience**:
- Solid background in power engineering and controls, including knowledge of motor control and basic sensor principles
- Experience working in a tertiary research/teaching environment
- Working knowledge of MATLAB, LabVIEW, C/C++, C#, Python or equivalent programming languages
- Experience in embedded design and programming
- Experience in analog and digital circuit design
- Experience in microcontroller and computer interfacing
- Experience supporting research through data collection, equipment maintenance/upkeep and data analysis
You will thrive in this position if you are skilled in electronic design, construction and repair and comfortable with the instrumentation of mechanical and electromechanical systems and/or data acquisition
