Canterbury Health Laboratories (CHL) is a busy
diagnostic facility providing services to inpatients and outpatients at Te
Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury Hospitals within the province of Canterbury.
You will be working for the largest medical laboratory in the South
Island which is also a major secondary/tertiary referral centre with a varied
and challenging caseload. CHL has an immediate catchment of circa 600,000
with wider provision to circa 1.2 million. CHL also provides a national service
for selected tests.
This is a full-time (40 hours per week) permanent
position, based in the Protein Chemistry Section at CHL, situated in central
Christchurch. The role is primarily based in the Protein Chemistry Section but
will also rotate within other areas of the Specialist Cluster, as training and
competencies are established.
The Specialist Cluster of CHL has a
long-established expertise in development, analysis and clinical interpretation
of routine and specialised assays. The Protein
Chemistry Section test repertoire includes assays for detection and monitoring
of multiple myeloma, plasma protein analysis, various electrophoretic
techniques and electrospray ionisation time-of-flight mass spectrometry.
We are looking for applicants
with a qualification in biochemistry or immunology but will consider applicants
from other specialties. Previous
proteins experience including electrophoresis would be an advantage, however
full training will be provided. You must be registered (or eligible for
registration) with the New Zealand Medical Laboratory Sciences Council and hold
a current Annual Practising Certificate.

The successful applicant will
be a highly motivated team player with excellent interpersonal skills and
attention to detail. In addition, you
will possess effective time management skills and be able to work independently.

**This role requires the following**:

- A registered Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) preferably with a

current practicing certificate or qualifications that would allow/lead to
registration as an MLS
- Practical experience in electrophoresis techniques and immunoassay
- Familiarity with laboratory processes, quality management

**(compliance with ISO**: 15189) and experience in a similar role
- Methodical and practical skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy skills
- Interpersonal and organisational skills
- Data entry experience
- Computer skills (Microsoft Office, Word, Outlook and Excel)Mō mātou | About Us
