Senior Communications and Engagement Adviser - Trade and Economic focus
- Work with some of the world’s best international trade negotiators
- Help enhance New Zealand’s integration into a more globalised world - and into a wealthier, more powerful and more economically integrated Asia-Pacific region

Provide Communications and Engagement support to a team which helps enhance the flow of goods, services, people, skills, capital and ideas to deliver an agile, adaptable and innovative economy.

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

This is not your typical communications and engagement role - while you will be a part of our amazing team of communications professionals - the portfolio that you will look after in this role has a unique trade and economic focus, in particular providing communications advice and support to the team delivering New Zealand’s international trade and economic objectives.

The team negotiates and implements Free Trade Agreements that help give New Zealand businesses the market access and rules they need to thrive. They also work with other agencies to develop policies that will build the global connections and conditions that are vital to improving New Zealand’s export and investment performance.

This is an opportunity for you take a strategic approach to the planning and delivery of engagement and communication in this portfolio, targeting key audiences and stakeholders and using effective channels and tools to achieve impact and influence.

The appointment range for this role is $121,043 - $163,743 total remuneration including employer contribution to Kiwisaver - negotiable depending on experience.
We expect to appoint around the midpoint $142,403 - give or take depending on your level of experience.

**Please note**:
This is not a Foreign Policy/diplomatic role. This is a ‘Corporate’ role (known here as a Specialist role) based in central Wellington, NZ.

Mā‎ wai te mahi nei? - Who are we looking for?

We would like to hear from you already have significant communications experience at a senior level including providing advice and guidance to senior managers on complex and/or ambiguous issues.

**In particular we’d like to hear about your**:

- Ability to identify communications and engagement implications from business plans and initiatives and provide plans and advice that will achieve strategic objectives.
- Ability to plan appropriate communications and engagement solutions using a range of channels, with a strong focus on achieving results.
- Expertise in communications service delivery and excellent knowledge of communications practice and relevant legislation.
- Experience in developing or participating in the development of stakeholder engagement plans and strategies
- Ability to work with and influence internal clients at all levels and develop trust and credibility in order to identify critical communications issues and deliver or broker relevant services.
- Political awareness and ability to take a strategic focus on communication opportunities.
- Sound understanding of tikanga and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles

Communications experience in the public sector and/or within an international context would be an advantage.
