Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
The Speed and Infrastructure Programme gives effect to the Road to Zero strategy, contributing to the infrastructure improvements and speed management focus area of the strategy. The Programme is prioritising investment in proven infrastructure interventions and speed management to save lives and reduce the number of people seriously injured on our roads.
We work in partnership with local government and the wider safety sector to find the right mix of safety solutions for each region.
The purpose of this role is to provide strategic direction and leadership for the NZ Transport Agency in the delivery of the Speed and Infrastructure programme. The Highway Programme Lead is accountable for leading and driving the programme of Infrastructure improvements on the highway network through the design phase into construction and completion. This includes supporting and influencing multi-disciplinary, multi-organisational teams to ensure the programme outcomes are achieved through the projects delivered.

**To be successful in this role, you will bring**:
- Leadership at a senior level in large and complex organisations with significant infrastructure related expertise
- Transport or infrastructure programme and project management capability, including broad experience of design and delivery of infrastructure programs
- Sound knowledge of the Safe System approach
- A proven track record of delivery with a focus on the ‘how'
- Outstanding leadership skills with a reputation for inspiring and enabling high performance
- Change management skills and a track record of championing change, culture change and team engagement
- A reputation for collaborative working relationships and achievement through partnerships
- Strong written and verbal communication skills - translating complex topics and issues at the correct level to influence the audience at the time
- An appetite for driving innovative, customer centred way of thinking
- Solutions focused with a strong drive for results
You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
