North Island, New Zealand Te Kura - The Correspondence School Full time

**Fixed-Term**

**Full-time 40 hours per week (1.0 FTE)**

**Based in New Plymouth (Taranaki Region)**

Keen to engage and support ākonga (students) with their education?

Keen to work with ākonga to empower them to become engaged and contributing members of their communities?

Want to be part of a supportive, collaborative and innovative culture?

**Ko wai mātou | About Us**

Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) is New Zealand's largest school with a roll of up to 24,000 ākonga (students) at any point of time. We provide personalised and authentic learning programmes through distance education from early childhood to NCEA Level 3, including to young adult and adult learners.

Our vision is to enable our ākonga to achieve their educational and personal goals, empowering them to become engaged and contributing members of their communities. Ki te tī, ki te tā, ki te katoa - Anytime, anywhere, anyone.

**Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this position**:
In 2021 the Government provided funding for Te Kura to support learners at risk of disengagement, who were disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 disruptions. Te Kura set up an Enhanced Engagement and Wellbeing project (He Oranga Mahuru) to support these ākonga. Working directly with ākonga the Kaiāwhina mentors, motivates, encourages, challenges and supports ākonga, individually and in small groups, as ākonga engage in learning activities as guided by the project lead or in region kaimahi. The success of this program in 2021 has meant that we were able to establish this position permanently.

In the Kaiāwhina role you will work as part of a team to improve outcomes for these ākonga by re-engaging them with their learning, and/or to successfully transition on to further education, training or employment.

**Ko koe tēnei | About you**:
We are looking for people with excellent interpersonal skills and an inclusive approach, able to quickly build rapport and trust with ākonga. You will be expected to be aware of the health and safety requirements for working with ākonga outside the classroom and comply with the school's policies at all times.

Knowledge and experience of Tikanga and Te Reo Māori is an advantage.

**Hei whakautu | In return**

Te Kura will provide you with the opportunity to learn and grow in a supportive environment and work in a team that offers genuine work flexibility as part of an organisation that makes a difference to ākonga (students) across New Zealand.

**Me pēhea te tuku tono | How to Apply**

Applications must be lodged via our career's portal, and you must have the right to reside or work in New Zealand.

**E hiahia mōhio anō ana koe? | Like to find out more?**

**Applications close at 5pm on Wednesday, 6 March 2024.
