Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
We - re looking for a permanent Consultant Plastic Surgeon to join our team at Hutt Hospital.
This role is a new appointment to support the plastic surgery service, with a key focus on hand surgery and acute aspects of the service.
A suitably qualified plastic hand surgeon would contribute to twice monthly acute hand clinics. Operative access for elective care would be balanced with planned acute lists and a developing acute surgeon of the day model of care.
Support of the general plastic surgery work load would include see and treat clinics for skin cancer and monthly general clinics. This role will contribute to the on call roster / surgeon of the day model.
The individual will support and lead junior medical staff, take an active role in interdisciplinary team education, and actively support and utilise nurse specialist role/s as appropriate. They will actively participate in quality improvement, clinical audit activities and service development meetings and initiatives.
Consultants currently provide a 1:10 surgical on call roster and
the service is implementing a new surgeon of the day model. An exciting
opportunity exists with the opening of a brand new multidisciplinary local
anaesthetic procedure suite to provide more consultant-led local anaesthetic
hand and skin surgery.
Moū - About you
- Vocationally registered in Plastic and reconstructive surgery with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
- FRACS or equivalent qualification and be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
- Recent experience in all aspects of general plastic surgery, with key focus hand and acute
- Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
- Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
