**Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity**
We have an important role in supporting the Crown in its relationships with Māori under Te Tiriti o Waitangi | The Treaty of Waitangi. The government is committed to improving services and outcomes for Māori and strengthening the Crown's relationships with Māori.
We are responsible for designing community-based systems of care, agreeing health and wellbeing plans, executing those plans, and monitoring outcomes which then feed into the design process. We work in partnership with our Te Whatu Ora and Te Aka Whai Ora colleagues to shape system-wide public health services across the motu.
The Senior Local Area Manager is the local and generalist holder of provider relationships, tasked with ensuring outcomes that radically improve Māori Health and eliminate inequities are achieved across the network of services within their locality. The Senior Local Area Manager is the budget holder for the localities they serve, within the parameters and delegations set across national and regional teams. They are responsible for establishing localities alongside Locality Development Advisors and developing authentic long-term relationships with IMPBs, health providers, wider social sector funders and providers, local government, and communities across their localities. Their role is a path smoother for localities, helping to solve identified problems and issues through working with their Te Whatu Ora colleagues, Te Aka Whai Ora, and the wider social sector across their localities.

Our name, Te Whatu Ora, means ‘the weaving of wellness'. Whatu is the combining of people, resources, organisations, thoughts and actions for the betterment and wellbeing of all. Whatu is also a direct reference to the pupil of the eye, and the vision required of the new entity and system.
We are working towards a system that better meets the complex demands of a growing population, addresses the persistent inequalities experienced by Māori and ensures improved access, experience and outcomes for those traditionally not well served by the system - Māori, Pacific and Disabled People.
