**Accessibility Facilitator (Rotorua)**
**Permanent Part Time (0.8 FTE, 30 hours per week)**
**Student Support**
The Accessibility Facilitator is a member of the Student Support Services Team. This role will be based at Mokoia Campus, Rotorua in the Bay of Plenty. The role aims to support ākonga with disabilities which may impact their participation and achievement in their learning journey at Toi Ohomai. Facilitated support provided maintains the integrity, independence, and mana of the ākonga.
More specifically the Accessibility Facilitator will:
- Facilitate assessment of needs, support and/or advocacy, for disabled learners to enable their fair and equitable access to, and success in, tertiary study at Toi Ohomai;
- Arrange additional support and resources;
- Arrange and negotiate alternative teaching and assessment strategies for ākonga as required;
- Assist Kaiako through providing teaching suggestions which will support ākonga with disabilities;
- Deliver a contextualized accessibility service that aligns with Te Pūkenga aims and meets the unique regional needs of Toi Ohomai.
The skills, experience and qualifications required for this role include:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in education or social services
- Support or teaching experience in a primary/secondary/tertiary institution
- Experience in supporting learners with disabilities
- Experience with a range of IT platforms used in education
- Understanding of culture and diversity that exists within the disabled community
- A strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and understanding of its importance in how ākonga are supported
