New Zealand Police is the lead agency responsible for preventing crime and enhancing community safety. It works in partnership with individuals, communities, businesses, and other public sector agencies towards the vision of making New Zealand the safest country. Police is the government’s largest front-line response agency with around 15,000 staff in large and small communities all over New Zealand and in liaison and policing development roles overseas.
We are looking for an influential people-leader who is passionate about improving our service. This role includes being responsible for leading a Section, contributing to the National overview and efficient operation of Online Reporting and Kapiti File Management Centre services. You will be confident leading others in their development in a supportive manner through coaching, reflection and providing quality feedback. Attractive attributes are experience in leading teams, seeking continuous improvement, embracing and implementing change and being calm and efficient in high pressure situations.
File Management and Transcription Services (FM&T) partners with front line staff as well as regional and national teams therefore requires excellent service and communication skills. You will gain invaluable skills, knowledge and experience that will connect you with all areas of Police whilst serving the community.
**Key Accountabilities**:
- Whakamana: Enhance the Mana and Waiora (Well-being) of others, so that we can all be safe and feel safe.
- Build on the existing culture, based on the core values of the NZ Police encouraging diversity, and creating an environment where everyone can thrive.
- Support one another: Supporting our colleagues across every function and level of Police.
- Engage positively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide day to day leadership and direction of the team.
- Lead a constructive approach to team efforts. Plan, develop and monitor the team to perform at the best of their ability.
- Lead National File Management initiatives and champion change.
- Prioritise, manage, and delegate various workloads.
- Review, assess and complete files, follow protocols and forward files to relevant parties with recommendations.
Shift work details
- The Kapiti File Management Centre operates 24/7 and this role requires shift work. Two early shifts, two late shifts, two night shifts and four days off.

- Knowledge of multiple computer systems such as NIA, OnDuty and iNetViewer is an advantage but not essential.
This role is set at Team Leader/Manager level, this means your key purpose is “to lead the activities for Our Business and enable people to deliver them.”

Utu ā-tau | Salary
This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $73,207 and $84,993 dependant on skills and experience relevant to the role.
