An exciting permanent opportunity for a Principal Advisor with project/programme experience and a background strategically managing portfolios of work. Overview of the organisation Hutt City Council are committed to changing the lives of residents, visitors and workers in the Hutt Valley. Their aim is to better the city through developing communities, strengthening partnerships and achievable solutions. Hutt City Council have a 10-year plan focused on delivering substantial changes in infrastructure, housing and sustainability to better connect their community. They are seeking to address their challenges of growing populations, climate change and an aging infrastructure. The EPMO provides a centralised function of programmes, projects & workstreams in line with the councils strategic objectives and capacity to deliver. The EPMO has short term aims to build the capability within the portfolios of work, improve on the ‘best practice’ methodologies in place, and make their work more visual across the Hutt City Council.
**About the role**
The role requires an experienced Principal Advisor to have oversight of the delivery of projects/programmes and develop EPMO processes within the Hutt City Council EPMO. You’ll be a trusted advisor to ensure the council is investing in the right work and advise programme and project managers to support the development of the project management practice. You’ll have the confidence to take initiative and lead decision-making processes across a wide group of stakeholders within Hutt City Council.
As the Principal Advisor, you will be adept at aligning strategic priorities to business plans, have extensive experience with portfolio management and possess the people skills to build strong relationships across the Council and with external partners.
**Key Responsibilities**
Your responsibilities will include:
- Manage the planning, monitoring and delivery of the portfolio in line with the wider Hutt City Council aims
- Build the capability of the EPMO and wider organisation through developing and implementing best practice methodologies and processes
- Establish and build strong relationships with external partners, project/programme teams, and the other key senior stakeholders
- Work within a high performing team alongside other Principal Advisors and the Head of the EPMO
- Build an understanding of the Council, including their vision for their 10-year plan, to align it to your work
**Key Requirements**
- An in-depth understanding of project/programme/portfolio best practice.
- Demonstrated experience in leading governance and driving success within a PMO/EPMO.
- Proven leadership skills within a project/programme environment.
- Committed to building capability within the team and across the Council.
- Confident engaging with strategic senior stakeholders, including iwi and community groups.
- Strong decision-making skills, critical thinking and ability to analyse complex information.
- Experience producing high quality reports and working under pressure to deliver to deadlines.
- Experience in the public sector or local government including working alongside senior leadership would be beneficial.
