Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role

As a Visual Designer, you will provide customer centric design services to a variety of teams within New Zealand Food Safety to ensure the fod businesses they work alongside thrive and achieve compliance, and exporters meet their responsibilities under MPI rules and guidelines.

This position sits between two teams, the Stakeholder & Engagement team and the Exporter Regulatory Advice Serivices team, both within NZFS.
You will assist teams across NZFS in visualising ideas, working with them to design, develop and execute the material they require such as providing guidance material, collateral for workshops, infographics, diagrams, reports, social media tiles, walkthroughs, and presentational materials when required.

This is a role where you will ALWAYS be learning. Whether it's about safe food production, food science, regulatory reqrements, expanding your knowledge of MPI as a whole, or your visual design knowledge. No one day will be the same and the Engagement team will support and encourage you to grow.

You will focus primarily on external pieces of work, which can vary greatly. Some projects will see you working alongside the food science community providing material that will be shown to researchers all around the world, or Industry partners who are looking to export their products overseas or looking to import to NZ.

You will need to liase with a range of external and internal stakeholders such as printing companies and enabling editing and design across the wider team.

**To be the successful you will**:

- Love to be a specialist within a collaborative team, sharing ideas and feedback
- Have knowledge of the elements of visual design and knowledge of design as a communication tool - how the elements can speak to our customers
- Take ownership for your work, prioritising projects, and understanding the impact it has on others, managing that and be adaptable in changing circumstances
- Collaborate on projects, share information and practices, and co-ordinate with teams across work programmes
- Strong customer focus - a ‘can do' attitude, dedicated to meeting the expectations of both internal and external customers and gaining their trust and respect

**Desired**:

- Have a degree or post graduate qualification in a relevant field
- Experience in digital, video, animation, and photography an advantage.
- Knowledge of the food safety sector, or a Food Science discipline would be an advantage.

The team demonstrates practical change, translating customer insights into actions, which we test and iterate with our customers and across MPI. Our approach is flexible, and we use a range of visual tools to convey information in ways that resonate with our customers (internal and external).
