We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Bridge and Structures Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for undertaking engineer inspections/assessments of structures assets and leading the design and delivery of complex bridge and structural projects, ensuring they meet both technical and safety standards. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, manage project timelines, and provide mentorship to junior engineers.

The Engineering team have five core functions of Engineering Design, Engineering Advice, Long-Term Asset Management, Technical Standards, and Assurance.

As a Senior Bridge and Structures Engineer at KiwiRail, you will report to the Structures Engineering Team Lead and will be responsible for managing engineering aspects of assessment, design and significant maintenance work for railway infrastructure Structures assets. Structures assets are primarily bridges, however our team also has oversight of tunnels, lighting towers, turntables, signal masts and third party bridges over the rail corridor. Whilst there are no direct reports into this role, you will provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.

**What you’ll do**:

- Take responsibility for assessing and making decisions about structures assets
- Provide technical advice for the maintenance and upgrade of structures
- Produce and manage design solutions for structures assets
- Support the development of asset management strategies
- Manage and support maintenance and renewal projects
- Review and produce technical documentation, specifications, standards and instructions

**What you’ll need**:
To be considered for this role you will have demonstrated experience taking a leading role in the design of bridges and the ability to influence others at all levels including:

- At least 8 years’ experience in a relevant professional engineering environment
- Bridge design and general civil engineering design and construction experience
- Knowledge of structures defects and risk mitigation methodology
- Experience with relevant software and systems
- Tertiary Engineering Degree with a relevant specialisation
- Project management and contract management experience is desirable
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
