This is a fantastic opportunity for an Allied Health Assistant to become an integral member of the team; you will be working with patients, their whanau and staff in a range of settings at Waikato Hospital on the acute wards to carry out tasks under the delegation of Allied Health Practitioners. We are looking for applicants with either previous therapy assistant or healthcare experience.

**The work involves tasks such as**:

- Supervising patients to go through their exercise/therapy programme as prescribed by a qualified physiotherapist/occupational therapist
- Helping patients to regain their independence with activities of daily living following medical illness/surgery
- Cleaning, issuing, restocking/ordering of equipment such as walking aids and exercise equipment
- Perform basic administrative tasks and managing short term loan database

Allied Health is a department of Waikato Hospital that provides Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech & Language Therapy, Dietetic, Audiology & New Born Hearing screening, Social Work, and Psychology services. Staff within these professions are all involved in direct client care and work in a wide range of situations to improve the health and wellbeing of the people they work with. Their work includes people who are acutely unwell in hospital, or requiring rehabilitation for serious illness or injury, people who have chronic illness or disability and need to improve functional independence and quality of life.

Allied Health staff work in partnership with individuals and their family/whanau to facilitate relationships and a smooth journey through the healthcare system.

Required skills & experience you will need to be considered for this role:

- Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- A positive a flexible attitude and excellent people skills
- An ability to work as part of a team
- Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic computer skills
- Full NZ driving licence
- Health care experience preferred
