Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
The Data Engineer is a key member of the Engineering & Integration team within Auckland's Health Information Technology (HIT) team. They are an expert in traditional Data Warehouse development using tools such as WhereScape RED or Similar based on Microsoft SQL Server, but also familiar with the latest Cloud Data Platform Technologies.
The data engineer is an experienced practitioner having architected, built and supported enterprise data environments including operational data stores, data warehouses on cloud and traditional on premise data management platforms.
The Data Engineer will design, code, and implement new functionality within our on-prem environments. This includes the creation new data pipelines, enhancing existing functionality, and supporting business intelligence analyst data needs. They are also responsible for tuning the performance and structure of the underlying data solutions within our environments.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills
As the ideal person for this role, you will have the following skills and attributes:
- Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or Technology related
- Ability to see business requirements/issues from the customer's perspective.
- Excellent interpersonal skills. Outgoing and confident
- 10+ years of relevant experience implementing and using data and intelligence platforms
- Experience with working with business intelligence tools such as Business Objects
- 5+ years' experience using tools such as WhereScape RED, SQL Server, Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Analysis Services etc
- Knowledge of developing and maintaining physical and logical data models
