Christchurch, New Zealand Dawn Aerospace Full time

Dawn Aerospace, based in both New Zealand and the Netherlands, is a space transportation company providing in-space satellite propulsion to its customers globally and developing a same-day reusable spaceplane.

The company has achieved a series of significant milestones in the past 12 months, including launching 21 propulsion units to space from Europe and the USA and completing the successful first flights of the suborbital spaceplane, the Dawn Mk-II Aurora. Dawn was named Hi-Tech Startup Company of the Year (2020), Emerging Business of the Year at the NZ International Business Awards (2021) and won the Supreme Award for medium/large business at the Westpac Champion Business Awards (2021, Canterbury).

We are looking for a skilled and motivated person to undertake electrical engineering responsibilities for in-space propulsion spacecraft systems. The individual will be working closely with all sub-teams to design and implement electrical solutions from high-level requirements, all the while contributing to our goal of achieving scalable, accessible and sustainable spaceflight.

**Responsibilities**
- Translate engineering requirements and specifications into high quality, well-tested, electronic systems
- End-to-end ownership of electrical systems - from specification through design, prototype, validation, and manufacturing
- Work alongside engineers from a variety of disciplines
- Coordination with component suppliers
- Clearly document and present designs at various stages of completion
- Project management for the full life cycle of development to production, by actively managing development, and test schedules through to the manufacturing, ensuring timely delivery of flight hardware
- Systems engineering, to ensure that all requirements are met, while no other systems are negatively impacted
- Production of flight hardware, prototype development, selection of vendors and production methods
- System integration of electronics into satellites
- This role may require travel domestically and internationally

**Requirements**:
**Required experience**
- Bachelors or Masters in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability
- 4+ years of relevant experience, ideally in an aerospace environment
- Experience designing to meet NASA or ECSS requirements/guidelines
- Experience working with digital communication busses, including I2C, CAN, SPI, RS-485
- Experience in selection and use of analogue sensors and signal conditioning circuits
- Experience with circuit simulation software
- Knowledge of electronics design for space, including radiation testing
- Experience with power electronics design
- Ability to solder and manually assemble electronics to a high standard
- Experience writing embedded software for ARM processors.
- Experience with PCB design and working with EDA software, such as Altium, Cadence or KiCad
- Experience with design for EMC
- Experience with designing HITL test rigs for electronic circuit boards, including implementing test plans to meet reliability targets
- Experience with testing, troubleshooting and debugging electronic hardware
- Proficiency with basic electrical laboratory equipment, including scopes and vector network analysers
- Knowledge of systems engineering
- Ability to work in a highly cross-functional role
- Proven oral and written communication skills (English)

**Desired experience**
- Wide range of hands-on skills from PCB assembly to wire harness/cable tree construction to automotive/aerospace standards
- Experience using mechanical CAD software
- Experience with high-reliability electronics (e.g. DO-254)
- Basic understanding of mechanical design fundamentals
- Experience in programming languages such as Python, C, C++, or Rust
- Experience with version management systems such as Git
- Experience with project/team management methodologies such as Agile, or similar.

**Important**:
If you think you have what it takes but are unsure that you check every box, we still want to hear from you. Your ability to creatively solve complex challenges and practical experience in designing/building/coding technology tops specific qualifications or tools.

**About Dawn Aerospace**:
Every week we see new companies coming to market, using space-based technology in new and exciting ways we had never before imagined. Our industry is at the same inflexion point the internet was back when we went from dial-up to broadband, but there are some significant hurdles to overcome.

Dawn Aerospace was founded to redefine near-space transportation. Redefine how we deliver assets to space, position satellites on orbit and return things down to Earth to enable the vibrant and circular space economy of the future. To do this, we build scalable, accessible and sustainable spaceflight technologies - technologies that are sustainable for not just the foreseeable future, but the unforeseeable future.
