Operations Manager

Position Summary:
Support the company's overall operating objectives, by providing strategic leadership for the Supply Chain Logistics organization. Sets and manages the operations and objectives, of a large distribution center (Greater than 250,000 sq ft ) in supporting multiple divisions, customers, and business units with multiple operating systems. Acts as a business partner through support of and alignment with other internal and external customers throughout the organization. Provides hiring, promotion and disciplinary action recommendations, as well as performance evaluation and feedback for direct reports. This position typically is in either a large or a more complex distribution center and reports to the Distribution Manager II.
Major Responsibilities:
Operations
- To represent the company as the authorised representative for the repair and service workshop for liaison with IANZ and working with regional Quality Supervisor to maintain the workshop accreditation to ISO/IEC 17020 requirements
- Maintain Dangerous Goods Compliance including Fire and Emergency NZ requirements with ongoing staff training, updating site plans, documenting Hazardous Storage Locations and Spray Booth certification
- Work with Trust Management to maintain Building Warrant of Fitness
- Ensure workshop efficiency meets Regal targets
- Coordinate and direct the flow of work through the service workshop to make the best use of staff and to maximize productivity and minimize cost while maintaining quality.
- Investigate, trouble-shoot and provide solutions to production problems.
- Provide direct supervision and training for service technician workers.
- Aid in planning, prioritizing and managing maintenance or downtimes to minimize disruptions to modifications schedules.
- Ensure all safety procedures are followed and metrics are met.
- Ensure that the workshop housekeeping and operating practices are of a high standard and that special tools and equipment is well maintained.
- To act as a technical expert in the workshop, advising staff on tasks and sharing knowledge, for example through regular toolbox talks.
- Inspect product to verify service specifications are met.
- Ensure management decisions are implemented.
- Attend relevant internal and external meetings and provide reports to management as required.
- Maintain accurate records pertinent to the running of an efficient department.
Logistics & Stock Control
- Ensures that inventory audits occur consistently on a regular basis to ensure quality standards are met. Leads activities and projects to support continuous improvement in the areas of safety, quality, delivery, and cost reduction.
- Ensure correct packing procedures are used before goods are despatched
- Oversee accurate picking of goods for despatch
- Liaise with Freight providers
- Control annual stock take
- Remain up to date with internal procedures and roll out accordingly
Building
- Oversee repair and routine maintenance of building and production equipment
- Oversee planning, prioritizing and managing maintenance or downtimes to minimize disruptions to workshop schedules
Health and Safety:
- Implement the company’s Health and Safety Policy, ensuring safe work conditions and practices within your area of responsibility (e/g. manual handling, use of PPE, safe us of machinery and equipment, stacking & storage etc)
- Carry our health and safety audits and inspections as required. Record and report finding and take, or follow up on relevant corrective actions.
- Ensure a high standard of general housekeeping is maintained
- Represent the department on the Health and Safety Committee as required
Maintenance:
- Manage preventative breakdown and specialist maintenance of all machinery and equipment with your area, ensuring that all maintenance schedules and records are updated accordingly.
- Supervise all maintenance in your area from start to finish including organising and supervision of all contractors on site in your area.
People Management:
- Overall responsibility for all aspects of the effective supervision, training and development and health, safety & welfare of your team.
- Provide strong leadership, direction and mentoring, thereby fostering and sustaining co-operation and team spirit
- Ensure compliance with the organisation’s policies, procedures and departmental work instructions
- Set measurable and realistic KPI’s, work standards and expectations, where appropriate, in line with company objectives and monitor and communicate these and progress against same. Regularly review, revise and re-issue as required. Take corrective action where appropriate.
- Manage employee conduct or performance problems in a manner consistent with Regal policies. Refer to Human Resources for advice and consultation as needed.
