Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
The team you will manage is known as the NAIT Enforcement Focus (NEF) team which began operating in January 2020. This team's primary focus is to gather data and evidence from the NAIT system. Compliance interventions used to achieve sustained compliance include education, warnings, infringement notices and prosecutions.
There are approximately 105,000 NAIT locations (farms) in the NAIT system. It is not unusual to detect 10,000 possible breaches in a single fortnight. Your team will select between 50 - 100 farmers to infringe and between 100 - 200 to warn. Approximately 15 cases will be referred to NAIT Officers for further investigation
You will have 6-9 direct reports in your team.
The purpose of the NAIT Act 2012 is to establish an animal identification and traceing system that:

- provides for the rapid and accurate tracing of individual, or groups of, NAIT animals from birth to death or live export; and
- provides information on the current location and movement history of individual, or groups of, NAIT animals; and
- improves biosecurity management; and
- manages risks to human health arising from residues in food, food-borne diseases, and diseases that are transmissible between animals and humans; and
- supports improved animal productivity, market assurances, and trading requirements.

- Experience in developing and maintaining relationships with other agencies, industry, iwi, the NZ public, and interest groups.
- Excellent judgement and analytical skills, in a regulatory andcompliance environment.
- People leadership skills, including selection, development, motivation, performance, and disciplinary management.
- Operational management skills including the development of plans and budgets, priorities, and processes to meet business objectives.
- Knowledge of New Zealand law, including its operation and how it is applied
- Have an engaging, honest, resilient and results focused working style to ensure the best team development and performance possible
