**Where and how you can work**

Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.

**What you’d be doing in this role**

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

**About the Group**

The Application Platform group’s mission is to empower Canvanauts to deliver delightful product features easily, quickly and safely. From our Identity & Access platform over landing pages stack to our client-server communication platforms. This group accelerates all engineers by providing essential core platforms that empower teams across Canva to deliver outstanding product features. Application Platform is a group of 60+ members with a strong engineering focus, solving some of Canva’s hardest challenges.

**About the Role**

You will be accountable for driving the success of the engineering team and building an impactful and cohesive team that is aligned in reaching the vision of the group. You will play a vital role in building world-class platforms that service engineers across Canva and reduce friction for them to deliver product features to a global user base.

At the moment this role is focused on:

- Building a highly aligned and collaborative engineering team for the group
- Regularly review and collaborate on the vision and strategy for the the group in collaboration with the multi-functional leadership team and in an open and inclusive manner
- Work with teams and partners to further adoption of available platform capabilities
- Maintain a deep understanding of the end-to-end user experience across key user segments within the group
- Contribute to the semiannual processes of goal setting and work with functional leaders and product managers to maintain a strong roadmap
- Regularly review delivery progress with the teams and redirect work as necessary
- Drive an environment of high reliability, through engineering and operational excellence
- Elevate engineering processes and thinking - you bring diverse experience to ensure engineering code and service ownership is always left better than it was found
- Support the recruitment and development of engineering leaders and specialists to help continue to build a diverse leadership pipeline within Canva.

You're probably a match if you have:

- Deep technical expertise in backend software engineering
- Experience working in distributed systems
- Validated experience building highly effective engineering teams, including leading leaders
- High interest and passion for platform engineering and linking it to creating business value
- Shown success in big picture thinking while still sweating the details of execution
- Success in encouraging others to achieve their full potential and builds diverse, impactful teams.
