**Job Description** Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity**

We seek an enthusiastic, self-motivated technician to join our engineering team in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. You will support the staff and students across various technical operations essential to research and teaching activities. You will primarily support the geomechanics laboratories. You will demonstrate technical expertise and health and safety knowledge to guide others. You will contribute critically to safety in a dynamic and busy industrial environment.

This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week, permanent role. The salary range for this role is $62,400 - $72,700 per annum depending on experience and qualifications.

**He kōrero mōu | About you**

You will have a bachelor’s degree or trade certificate or at least 2 years of relevant experience in civil engineering/construction, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering. You will have some experience working in fabrication with metal, plastics or wood. You will demonstrate a strong commitment to safety protocols and practices.

**Essential**
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Able to design and fabricate models.
- General computer literacy and good IT skills.
- Ability to analyse, research, learn, and adopt new methods and techniques for research projects and teaching activities.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work proactively, autonomously, and in a team.
- Strong relationship-building skills and customer service focus with academics, researchers, industry partners, and students.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical and electronic equipment and its troubleshooting.
