The Queenstown Lakes District Council provide high quality legal services and infrastructure to residents and visitors, managing the districts parks, trails, libraries, and recreational facilities, enabling sustainable development through consenting services and regulating local activities. They are a key part of maintaining and enhancing the quality of the Queenstown Districts environment. With an employed workforce of over 500 employees, the range of work carried out is extensive and complex; becoming increasingly more so as the district continues to grow.

**The Role**
- Commercial contracting and procurement
- Development agreements for infrastructure delivery
- Providing advice on the transactions and management issues of property and reserves
- Application of Local Government legislation and functions
- LGOIMA and Privacy Compliance
- CCTO/CCO matters
- Civil Disputes and litigation, (including the supervision of external legal representation).

Within these areas, you will work alongside and report to Rachael Roberts, Associate Counsel (Corporate). Together, you will comprise the corporate division of the wider legal team.

**About You**
Key requirements:

- New Zealand practicing certificate or the ability to obtain one.
- 5+ years of experience in the areas of corporate/commercial, local government, public, construction, litigation and/or resource management law.
- Commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and an awareness of Māori perspectives and issues relevant to Māori.
- Be living in Queenstown, or willing to relocate.
- Local Government / public law experience is desired but not essential.

Key relationships:

- Internal: General Counsel, Associate Counsel (Corporate), all legal team members, Chief Executive, Executive Leadership Team, QLDC Managers and staff, Councillors.
- External: Legal service providers, central government agencies.
