Providing generalist and specialist emergency management skills to bring a more cohesive, robust and resilient approach to issues such a food contamination, food fraud and food defence - along with the wealth of other issues that have to potential to impact our food safety system.

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role
The Haumaru Kai Readiness & Response team is an entirely new function. Established off the back of recommendations from historic and current food safety responses, this internal capability and capacity will allow NZFS to prepare for and respond to future events more effectively and efficiently.
This Specialist Adviser, Response Operations - is a true response generalist position; you'll have a well-worn pair of tap-dancing shoes, be versed in herding cats, and be comfortable tackling whatever the ambiguous or impossible seeming task at hand may be. Don't worry, we'll be right alongside you tackling it as a team though
Whether it's engaging with industry response teams to help build their maturity to food recalls and incidents, developing and delivering scenario-based exercises to build capability and keep teams ‘ready', or donning the ‘orange vest' and leading the Operations Function of a response - we guarantee this role will keep you on your toes and intrigued.
You will need to be an Operations SME to your peers and wider Directorate, a mentor and teacher to those looking to build response capability, a networker and connector across industry and service delivery partners, and a trusted adviser to other Government agencies. A true Jack or Jill of all.
This role really does have a ‘night and day', ‘readiness and response' component, so you are encouraged to familiarise yourself with the full Position Description to get an accurate reflection of the job.

Mōu - About You
To be successful in this role we are looking for someone who has:

- Experience leading and managing in a formal incident management structure, such as Coordinated Incident Management System or similar
- Knowledge and understanding of New Zealand's national security framework, including domestic and international dimensions of biosecurity, trade, food, or other sectors or disciplines
- Experience in making operational decisions with incomplete information in a high pressure and complex environment
- An innovative mindset, comfortable looking through the corporate fog and bringing fresh, engaging and pragmatic response ideas to the fore
- A high level of presentation, written/verbal communication and influencing skills - being able to pivot and tailor messaging no matter the audience
- An ability to have fun, show empathy, have a laugh and support those (including colleagues), who are impacted by responses and the associated effects
