The Office of Hon Karen Chhour, Minister for Children and Prevention of Family and Sexual Violence is seeking someone who is ready for a fast-paced and exciting role. Based in a ministerial office, you will work closely with the Minister to ensure communications are clear, informative, and timely.

As the Press Secretary, you will be responsible for supporting the Minister with media enquiries, press releases, interviews, and the overall communications plan.

With a background in communications, public relations, or journalism, combined with a strong understanding of New Zealand politics, you will be an integral part of the Minister’s team.

If you are comfortable working in an environment where no two days are the same, and you can adapt to new situations, learning information as you go, this role may be just the next career move you are looking for.

The position will require you to process a range of complex material. An eye for detail and the ability to communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences through a number of channels is critical to success.

You will have good knowledge of the current media and political landscape. You will be comfortable and confident interacting with members of the Minister’s team, other Ministerial offices, and journalists.

This is an events-based position based on a three-year parliamentary term. The likely appointment range for this role is $111,458 - $138,704 per annum, with starting salaries reflecting relevant skills and experience, as well as internal parity.
