Are you skilled in Te Ao Māori communications? Fluent in te reo Māori? Ready to make your mark on a Tiriti-focused Aotearoa? If this sounds like you, we're excited to connect
**Ko wai mātou? | Who are we**:
Join the heart of New Zealand's democracy. We're on the lookout for a dynamic communications specialist with te reo Māori skills to step into the role of Pou Tiaki Whakapā. You'll be the go-to person for Te Mātāwaka, the Green Party's Māori and Pasifika Caucus, helping to amplify their voice and connect with communities. If you're passionate about making a difference and want to be part of something exciting, this is the opportunity for you
**Mō te tūranga nei | About the Role**:
This is more than a traditional press secretary role, utilising multiple forms of storytelling including written, visual, and audio. The Pou Tiaki Whakapā will support MPs to build and strengthen relationships with Māori & Pasifika communities, media, and regional media to grow awareness of the Green Party kaupapa and policies.
**Ngā haepapa | Key responsibilities**:
In this role, you'll be at the forefront of shaping media strategies, spotting compelling story opportunities, and managing potential risks. You'll craft impactful press releases and engaging social media content, all while supporting MPs in preparing for media interviews and delivering speeches in te reo Māori.
Building strong relationships within Te Ao Māori networks, key media, and stakeholders will be a key part of your day-to-day, ensuring they are informed of the Green Party's positions. You'll collaborate closely with policy advisors, researchers, and the communications team to empower MPs in their vital roles.
**Ko wai koe? | Who are you**:
We're looking for passionate individuals at all levels of experience—from fresh starters to seasoned pros—who bring the right skills, attitude, and drive to champion the Green Party kaupapa. If this sounds like you, here's what we'd love to see:
- Background in journalism, communications, public relations, and/or advocacy campaigning, with strong content creation skills.
- A deep understanding of Te Ao Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Ability to speak and write in Te Reo Māori is essential.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with Māori, other journalists, and diverse community networks.
- Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and discretion in maintaining confidentiality - traits that are key in a press secretary like role
**Ngā hua o tāu mahi | Benefits**:
Along with joining a fun, knowledgeable, and dynamic team. We offer a range of benefits including 5 weeks annual leave, access to an on-site gym and pool, learning and development opportunities and flexible working arrangements.
The salary range for this role is $78,625 - $89,250. Highly experienced applicants may be appointed above this range. Appointments will be based on skills and experience.
Please note that if you are shortlisted for the position, you will be assigned a written assignment as part of the interview process.
