**The Role**

We are looking for an enthusiastic, diligent, and motivated Finance Associate to manage and transform the operation of our accounting function. You will be one of the first hires joining the finance team of this rapidly scaling and exciting start-up. You will be the key counterpart to the Head of Finance, owning the hygiene of our accounting systems and processes, and supporting in the development and evolution of the finance function at Basis.

You will take ownership of day-to-day transactional accounting and accounts payable, and support its evolution to a scalable and robust operation. You will support the transition of our existing processes to new, more efficient systems and potentially outsourced management in the future.

Some of the things that you might be involved in include:

- **Transactional Accounting**:bank reconciliations, general ledger, recording and analysing financial transactions, accounts payable and receivable, GST returns, month end processes, etc.
- **Budget Management and Reporting**:assisting with budgeting and forecasting, interacting with other business units to support their budget management and financial decision making, and ad hoc projects as required.
- **Evolving the Finance Function**:supporting the identification and implementation of new systems as the company scales and grows, ownership and development of more robust finance policies and underlying processes, and supporting the development of a culture of financial discipline and maturity across the business.

Given the finance team is in its infancy, this role gives you enormous opportunity to pave your own path, starting with a broad base of responsibilities and evolving into a key member of the finance team as we scale

**About You**

We think you’ll be a fit for this role if possess the following skills or experience:

- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or another related field
- Proficiency in Excel and Xero
- Recent experience in an accounting role
- Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy coupled with strong communication and organisation skills
- An instinct for driving for efficiencies and optimisation of processes - not settling until a process or system is as slick as it can be
- Comfortable in the face of ambiguity. Able to manage your workload, focus on materiality and triage the most urgent priorities

Some nice to haves include:

- Experience working in one of the "Big 4"
- CA or CPA
