Our client is a well-established leader in their niche field of design, in-house build, and international export of specialist and complex heavy machinery. An abundance of work orders has led to this opportunity for a position of **Mechanical Design Engineer** to join the team, based in Rotorua.

Part of a global corporation, with each job being a new bespoke project, no two jobs are the same. Rotorua is a great place for people who like the outdoors, you can pop down to one of the lakes for your water sports and fishing, or hit the forest trails mountain biking, running, or walking. With house prices still lower than some of the larger North Island centres, it could be one of the more affordable places to enjoy living in New Zealand, and Rotorua is so close to other metropolitan areas, beaches and mountains.

**The Role**
The role is responsible for the design and continuous improvements of heavy machinery plant - seeing projects through from concept to commissioning.

Specifically, you will:

- Design new and continuously improve existing machinery
- Be involved in sales concept meetings to provide input into quotes and tenders
- Provide technical support throughout the project stages

To be successful in the role you will:

- Be a tertiary qualified mechanical engineer
- Have previous design experience with heavy machinery plant, including FEA and structural loadings
- Be proficient in AutoCAD Inventor
- Have proven experience with the manufacturing fabrication processes

You will be a genuine people person with strong communication skills, a self-starter, diligent in your work and a natural problem solver who just gets on with it, being comfortable working in a team or working autonomously.
