**Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity**
We are seeking a **Senior Financial Planning Analyst** to join us for a 12-month Fixed Term contract. This vacancy has come about due to an internal secondment.
In this role, you will split your time between deep analysis of budgets across a variety of projects and divisions and exploring/connecting with senior leaders and our Finance Business Partners to better understand the context and drivers behind the initiatives that you are supporting.
You could be well suited to this role if you are an established Finance Business Partner, Finance Manager or Financial Analyst at a senior level. You will need a strong finance background to be considered, but it’s your ability to connect, ask relevant questions and present information in a digestible way that will see you thrive.
This role will combine in-depth analytic skills and an understanding of relevant business drivers to enable insightful commentary and decision support. You will operate at the strategic and operational levels. You will combine operational metrics and financial insights to provide powerful reporting to drive the University towards the objectives of our Strategic plan Taumata Teitei.
This role is multifaceted, but below is an overview of some of the areas you can expect to work in:
- ** Review and Analyse Finances**: Providing financial insights and analysis on all the University financial outputs enabling senior leaders to make informed quality decisions.
- ** Advise and Collaborate**: Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify and communicate trends to support the quarterly and annual EFTS & forecast process.
- ** Connect and Explore**: You will engage with and develop an understanding of the business units of the University, with a view to monitoring financial performance and identifying issues and risks. This involves regular monitoring of forecasts and budgets and associated report writing.
- ** Support Business Cases**: Provide business case due diligence, ensuring information presented is adequate, complete, coherent, realistic, correctly analysed and supports the conclusions or recommendations of the business case.
- ** Support Change**: Analyse, consult and challenge business change or process design with a continuous improvement mindset.
- ** Business Partner**: Demonstrate excellent customer service/business partnering skills through reliable, efficient and accurate execution of service deliverables.

**Mō tō mātou rōpū | About the team**
Our Financial Planning and Analysis team exist to support the large strategic projects of the University and have a hand in our most strategic decisions and high-cost initiatives. We work closely with the University’s Financial Business Partners and senior leaders to drive positive change and fiscal responsibility.
We are based on Symonds Street in the CBD. Your immediate team consists of 8 Analysts who share the workload and manage their own portfolio of faculties and initiatives. This role does not require any line management, but you will help support and mentor the more junior analysts in the team.
We have a flexible approach to working in the office. To allow for meetings and a team vibe, we are usually in the office three days a week with the freedom to work from home and manage your hours in a balanced way.

We are seeking a finance professional who is comfortable acting as a business partner but who also enjoys really digging into the analytics and sometimes the complicated job of building financial models. You will be able to deliver information and understand your stakeholder’s needs.
Ideally, you will have an analytical mind and an open and direct communication style that will enable you to build strong relationships across a diverse organisation. You will enjoy writing, be able to convey complex financial information in a succinct manner and quickly gain an understanding of complex business cases.
Business partnering communication skills are key, you will be involved in challenging the business around the ability to achieve targets and be expected to translate this into meaningful commentary. The breadth of work is varied, and there is the ability to work on many areas across the University depending on your skills and preferences.
