**About the role**:
Are you a Registrar looking for a great balance of interesting work and excellent lifestyle? Then look no further than Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, a place where we value He kauanuanu -Respect; Ākina -Improvement; Rāranga te tira - Teamwork and Tauwhiro - Care.
**About us**:
Hawke's Bay Hospital is a 364 bed hospital providing acute and elective care for the Hawke's Bay region. We have most major medical and surgical subspecialties on site (except cardiothoracic and neurosurgery), as well as paediatrics and O&G. We are well supported by a strong regional ICU team. We have strengthening Primary and Community health services and an increasingly integrated approach to health and health care.
**About our team**:
The Respiratory & Sleep Department at Hawke's Bay Hospital is a strong and growing regional service covering nearly all aspects of respiratory medicine. The Advanced Trainee post is accredited for 12 months of core respiratory training. We have 4 permanent respiratory specialists ensuring continuous and varied specialist supervision and training exposure. This affords the successful applicant an opportunity to gain exposure to general respiratory and sub-specialty respiratory interests with scope to shape and develop the role whilst contributing to broader departmental activities. Our prior trainees have spoken highly of the role, and the volume and variety of training experiences that it offers. Prior trainees have secured further training positions in Australasian Tertiary Centres to complement their time with us and to complete their training following their post here.
Services include regular bronchoscopy lists, a busy pleural service (including placement of indwelling pleural catheters), and outpatient services across the breadth of respiratory and sleep medicine including local clinics for obstructive airways disease, a large lung cancer service, intersitial lung disease, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, TB and complex lung disease including post lung transplantation follow-up with network support from tertiary centres. There is a local education program for respiratory medicine, in which the trainee will actively participate, a local respiratory radiology meeting and interventional radiology service. We also participate in tertiary MDM for ILD and lung cancer. We (together with our radiology colleagues) provide support to complete ASUM certification in thoracic interventional ultrasound.
An updated and comprehensive pulmonary function lab including CPET with two experienced physiologists linking in to tertiary physiology teaching sessions weekly; provision of ambulatory sleep services; teaching of RMOs, nurses and allied health; developing models of care and liaison with community based support services. The trainee has the opportunity to undertake any/all bronchoscopies and a high volume of exposure to pleural procedures, lab activity, acute admissions to respiratory and specialist outpatient clinics, ensuring a good volume of clinical, practical and procedural exposure without having to compete for these opportunities with other trainees.
- Suitable for Resident Medical Officers who have completed basic physician training, passed their FRACO examination (or equivalent qualification).
