**Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role**

The Chief Adviser is responsible for the provision of high-quality strategic advice and thought leadership for the General Manager and others where appropriate on a wide range of policies and curriculum and assessment supports.

The Chief Adviser understands the national curriculum and provides salient curriculum change advice through having a strong strategic systems perspective across the various components of the government's investment in education, particularly given the devolved nature of schools and early learning centres.

**Mōhou ake | About you**

We are looking for people who are able to work at pace and manage set tasks and projects, but you will also notice pressure points, take the initiative and act. Your personal qualities will include taking pride in written work and other forms of communication of the highest quality every time and have a proven ability to get the job done. In this role you will be expected to have the kind of interpersonal savviness that means you will relate well with all kinds of people.

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.

**You will also demonstrate**:

- Strategic thinking with a strong knowledge of policy and working on high stakes policy driven initiatives
- The ability to make connections across work programmes in the Ministry and other sector agencies to align work for maximum impact.
- Influence others to bring alignment to work programmes
- Have strong writing and communication skills and the ability to lead the resolution of complex issues, identifying risks and solutions to protect and enhance the integrity and reputation of the Ministry.
- Develop and use data and insights to make evidence-based decisions and recommendations on strategic issues.

At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whanau. To better deliver on this, we are currently undergoing an organisational design change. The transition phase to improve the way we deliver our purpose will be complete in 2023.
