The Watch House has an opportunity for a part time (0.47FTE) Community Mental Health Nurse based at the central police station.

**Mō te tūnga | About the role**

Working outside of the clinical environment based at the central police station, your professional approach will see you working alongside the police providing excellent mental health/alcohol/drug support and education. You will undertake a brief assessment of the persons in custody, looking at their risk, mental state, co-existing addiction issues, and formulate a plan. Where appropriate, you will liaise with other Specialist Mental Health Services.

You may come from a forensic, acute or community background but wherever it is you will have the sound mental health knowledge we are looking for. This position is key to making a difference in someone’s life, engaging and providing early intervention and therefore enabling the person to receive appropriate care.

The ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in an integrated manner alongside an ability to confidently relate to all walks of life is imperative to this role. Flexibility is essential as you may be required to work as part of the wider crisis resolution function to meet clinical needs.

This is a 0.47 FTE, permanent rostered position (following a 4 days on, 2 days off roster pattern).

In order to be successful in this role, the following is required:

- Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current APC and mental health scope
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience working within Mental Health including psychiatric and risk assessments
- Be a Duly Authorised Officer who has been trained and signed off as being able to facilitate the MHA or a willingness to train as one
- Possess the knowledge and ability to use computers and related technology efficiently
- Have a full New Zealand drivers license
