Kōrero mō te tūranga | About our Directorate
The Strategy and Insights Directorate influences and sets primary sector policy direction regarding the productivity and sustainability of New Zealand's primary sectors through:

- Data and evidence
- Understanding the business and global operating environment
- Real-world understanding of farming/business systems and activity
- Leveraging relationships across a range of stakeholders across all sectors
- Delivering out of the box insight by combining expertise across our diverse teams

**Our wide-ranging work program includes**:

- Ensuring the primary sector has access to the workforce and skills necessary for future success
- Exploring the drivers behind rising costs of production and food prices
- Forecasting primary sector production, prices, and exports to build a deeper understanding of where are sectors are and where they are likely to be going
- Delving into consumer preferences for our primary sector products and how New Zealand can capitalise on these.
- Exploring levers for attracting investment into the primary sector to achieve a profitable and sustainable future
- Working with detailed financial, physical, and environmental data to understand farm-level policy impacts

**For an Analyst/Policy Analyst, we are looking for**:

- Excellent analytical skills
- Ability to form a view based on the evidence
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Someone who can give things a go, even when unsure
- Willingness to contribute positively to the team
- A passion for learning and asking questions
- An understanding of legislative processes and the machinery of government (for policy roles)
- The ability to bring a te ao Māori perspective

For a Senior Analyst/Senior Policy Analyst, we are looking for:

- An experienced professional who thinks strategically
- The ability to analyse complex issues using evidence and critical thinking
- Someone who is confident in questioning things others take for granted and comfortable with constructively challenging others at all levels
- Superb communicator who will grow our team's influence
- Comprehensive understanding of government processes and how to use them effectively
- Intellectual and professional leadership and support of colleagues
- The ability to work with tangata whenua to meet the Government's obligations under te Tiriti
- An understanding of legislative processes and the machinery of government (for policy roles)

**For a Senior Data Analyst, we are looking for**:

- Experience working with the Stats NZ Integrated Data Infrastructure or has the ability to pick it up
- Interest in maintaining/developing Code
- Familiarity with tax, immigration, and/or education systems or datasets, and the ANZSIC06 framework
- Ability to translate policy needs into data requirements/products and engage with stakeholders around this
