We are excited about the interesting and rewarding opportunities we have in our Environment & Sustainability Group. This Group works across vital areas such as building regulation, District planning, climate & solid waste and environmental protection.
**About the role**
Make your mark and showcase your talents with this newly created leadership position. As the Head of Environmental Protection business unit, you will provide leadership, strategic direction and confidence in the Council's Animal Control, Environmental Health, Trade Waste and Parking Services, to achieve a sustainable, safe and prosperous city where the community and businesses can thrive.
You'll be a thought leader and strategic thinker who can positively influence and affect change across the business units within the Group and will also possess a data -driven, decision management approach.
**About you**
You will have a tertiary qualification in business management and/or relevant technical discipline. It is also desirable that you have had experience in a regulatory environment.
You will be able to demonstrate that you have strong leadership skills, and an ability to build strong relationships and successfully lead people through significant change.

**The successful applicant will possess -**
- Outstanding senior leadership and staff management expertise within a regulatory environment
- Experience in developing and managing high performing teams
- Excellent financial management skills coupled with a strong political awareness
- Well-developed strategic and operational dexterity
- Understanding of/exposure to continuous improvement
- Excellent problem-solving skills and solutions focused
- Ability to build and maintain watertight relationships
**The following is advantages though not essential -**
- Proven experience in environmental health
- Understanding of and/or proven experience in local government
