Our Training Programme
The Auckland training program is accredited by the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA). To gain the FRCPA in haematology requires five years of accredited training. There are two pathways. Training may be undertaken fully according to the RCPA Fellowship program (FRCPA) or under a joint training program with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP). This position is open for trainees who would like to pursue a single fellowship (FRCPA only). The aim of the single Fellowship pathway is to equip trainees with the knowledge, skills and professional attitudes necessary to function as a specialist in the practice of laboratory haematology. The major emphasis is on laboratory practice, including a period of at least two years devoted to acquiring detailed knowledge and practical experience. No more than four years can be spent in any one laboratory. On completion of the Part I examination, trainees may continue in any general or sub-specialty area of haematology, e.g. molecular haematology or transfusion medicine. One year of the five may be spent in a branch of laboratory medicine other than haematology. During your training you will also be expected to do some clinical duties (e.g. on call after hours at the haematology in-patient ward and/or a haematology outpatient clinic).

**You will need to meet the following criteria to be eligible**:
Applicants need to have completed at least 2 house officer's years.It is desirable to have had some clinical experience in clinical haematology
An interest in technical and scientific laboratory matters and sound clinical skills
Interpretive and report writing skills
Capacity to work as part of a medical team
Eligibility for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Check if you're eligible here
