Otago Regional Council manages the land, air and water resources, and provides flood and natural hazard protection and response on behalf of communities across Central Otago, Clutha, Wanaka, Waitaki, Queenstown Lakes and Dunedin. Climate change impacts, pressure on critical infrastructure, and Otago’s complex river systems from mountain headwaters to coastal mouths, creates a challenging environment that requires a forward-thinking approach. That’s where you come in. We’re recruiting environmental, geology, water engineers, and natural resources professionals to join our River Engineering team. The focus of this team is flood risk management, river restoration and river engineering.

**Principal Advisor Rivers - **Provide operational leadership and steer effective river and flood risk management, bringing a strong environmental focus. Includes support of infrastructure planning, consenting processes, project delivery, maintenance, and operations. The Principal Advisor Rivers will work closely with other teams within Council, also consultants and contractors, and landowners that benefit from flood management and flood control. You’ll bring a qualification in Civil, Environmental, or Water Engineering or alternatively in Science or Geology. Prior delivery management experience is a must.

**River Engineer, South Otago - **Provide best practice river and flood management advice and undertake operational river management activities. This is a highly varied role with a good mix of office and field work, and plenty of interaction with colleagues, landowners, consultants and contractors. You’ll bring 3+ years of related experience and a qualification in Civil, Environmental, or Water Engineering or alternatively in Science or Geology.
