Maori Nurse Educator: New Entry to Specialist Practice

**About the Role**
You will be supporting the NESP nurse educators within MHAIDS. This position will primarily be to support the recruitment of Maori Registered Nurses for MHAIDS. As a Maori Nurse Educator, a key function of the role will be to support New Entrant Nurses through the NESP Programme to completion. You will work alongside the other NESP Programme Coordinators to support and assist in all aspects of the overall programme when and where required. You will work with the NESPS, preceptors and managers to support the teams to manage their workloads so they are able to provide learning opportunities for NESPs.
You will be based at Porirua and hours of work for this position are 20 hrs per week, generally between the hours of 8am and 5pm.
**About the Team/Service Location**
The Nursing NESP education team contribute to the management of all aspects of the NESP Programme to include recruitment within ACE requirements and guidelines. The team consists of NESP Educators, Maori NESP Educator/s and a Pacific NESP Educator. We all work together to support the cohort of NESPs, with the Maori NESP Educator and Pacific NESP Educator having a primary role with Maori NESPs and Pacific NESPS.
**About you**
- All registered nurses will have Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) and maintain a current annual practising certificate. Nurses working in MHAID Services must have an undergraduate mental health qualification or a post graduate certificate in mental health nursing. Application onto the District's Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP) at a senior level is required.
- Patient safety and quality improvement are important priorities to ensure an appropriate level of clinical care. The Nurse Educator will provide leadership across the organisation to support the growth and development of the NESP workforce supporting practice improvements and ensuring high levels of safe and competent practice.
- The Maori Nurse Educator (NESP) and the Nurse Educators are jointly responsible for all aspects of coordinating and facilitating the NESP programme including recruitment, and work predominantly with NESPs, preceptors and their managers in day to day NESP issues. The nurse in this role fulfils these roles in collaboration with the other NESP Nurse Educator.
- The environment is one of continuing change and the Maori Nurse Educator (NESP) role is an advocate for the organisation - s strategic direction. The Maori Nurse Educator will work closely with the Director of Nursing who is informed by the Priority Goals & Objectives.
