We have a rare and exciting opportunity for a clinical pharmacist with extensive knowledge and experience in Haematology/Oncology as well as strong leadership capabilities to join our progressive Clinical Pharmacy Service at Counties Manukau
**The opportunity**:
The department of Haematology provides comprehensive care for patients with general haematological problems, chronic leukaemias, lymphomas and myeloma. The Specialist pharmacist is based at the Haematology Day Ward where outpatients receive chemotherapy and is an integral part of the interdisciplinary team with roles and responsibilities that are diverse and stimulating. The core components include:
- Conducting clinical reviews and optimisation of chemotherapy and supportive treatments
- Organising timely supply of chemotherapy via the compounding company Baxter
- Medication counselling for patients
- Supporting clinical trials involving Haematology patients
- Attending weekly MDT meetings
- Developing and reviewing chemotherapy protocols at a local, regional and national level
- Overseeing pharmaceutical care provided to Haematology inpatients
- Educating and training pharmacy staff, such as rotational clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, and other healthcare professionals
In addition, there are many growth opportunities in quality improvement, research and leadership. In particular, the Specialist pharmacist is heavily involved in the change management associated with the impending roll out of Raurau Ngaehe, a regional project for electronic prescribing and administration of chemotherapy.
We are looking for a motivated, highly skilled clinical pharmacist with the relevant experience and leadership qualities to step into this role as a Specialist. Alternatively, this is a rare opportunity for an experienced clinical pharmacist who is passionate about a career in Haematology to develop from Pre-specialist to Specialist through our training pathway and established career framework. In addition, this role can cater for the pharmacist prescriber scope.
**Successful applicants must be**:
- Eligible to work in NZ
- New Zealand registered pharmacist with current APC or eligibility to obtain one
- Able to work flexible hours and participate in our on-call and weekend rosters
- For specialist appointment, at least 5 years of hospital experience overall, and at least 2-3 years of experience in Haematology/Oncology
- For pre-specialist appointment, at least 3 years of hospital experience overall and some previous experience in Haematology/Oncology
- Relevant postgraduate qualifications
- at minimum, working towards postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent; Pharmacist Prescriber
- Dedicated to a career pathway in Haematology
- Highly organised, attentive to detail and able to prioritise
- Patient-focused, enthusiastic and able to lead self, people and teams
- Effective communicator with sound problem-solving skills
- Supportive team player and able to teach and train other staff and students
- Demonstrates excellent clinical leadership capability with a keen interest and experience in quality improvement, service development and research
