**Tēnei tūranga - About the Role**:
The role of Researcher in the Country Research Team offers daily information challenges on wide-ranging topics.

We source information and provide research that can be applied to a range of Immigration New Zealand (INZ) decisions. The team’s work is primarily to support decision-making processes including in refugee status determination. Our researchers utilise a suite of online and hard-copy resources to answer research questions from INZ staff.

The Country Research Team operates between Auckland and Wellington. We work hard to support each other and communicate effectively across locations.

**We are looking for somebody who is a**:

- Critical and lateral thinker, ideally with a background in social sciences, humanities, information studies, or similar.
- Follower of world events and human rights issues who is interested in understanding and contributing to New Zealand’s immigration system.
- Tech-savvy interrogator of online, publicly available information who understands broader geopolitical contexts.
- Service-minded individual who engages with our MBIE customers to understand and meet information needs.
- Careful and concise writer who can condense complex findings into well-crafted, plain English responses for a varied audience.
- Team player who enjoys working collaboratively on research and projects.
- Confident communicator and engaging presenter.

- Practical experience in online research utilising information from a variety of publicly available sources including social media.
- Excellence in online searching techniques. This includes the ability to formulate and execute complex online search strategies, evaluating the reliability of information, effectively searching proprietary databases and adapting search strategies as required.
- Lateral thinker with ability to quickly assimilate new information or practices.
- An interest in international current affairs, global security issues and human rights.
- Concise written and spoken communication skills for a range of audiences.
- Excellent time management skills.
- A relevant degree and post-graduate (NZQA approved) qualification.
- Experience in developing and delivering presentations.
- Knowledge of or capability in languages is a bonus but not a requirement. Languages of particular interest are Tamil, Hindi, Urdu or Arabic.
